How can I improve my writing after I get my feedback?
Each video correction gives you detailed advice on your mistakes, band scores, why you got those scores, and exactly what you should focus on to improve. Think of this as a road map for your improvement. It is essential that you view your feedback video and follow our instructors’ advice to ensure that your studies are focused, and that you progress as quickly as possible.
Please view your video feedback carefully. Also, please keep in mind that you should feel free to pause the videos as necessary to take notes, and it may be necessary for you to view them more than once.
Students who make progress the fastest take the time to understand why they made the mistake. If you understand why you made the mistake, then it is a lot easier to take the correct action to overcome it.
Here are some ways to get the most out of your feedback:
- If your mistake was with your ideas, explanations or examples, try to remember what was going through your head when you planned your essay and why you thought you were on the right track. Clearly, there is something that you misunderstood.
- If your mistake was with the structure of your essay, then why didn't you use the Planning Templates and plan every single sentence before you started writing?
- If your mistake was with vocabulary, did you follow the 100% rule? If you were 100% sure about your vocabulary choice, then you have just discovered that your knowledge of that word is incomplete. If this is the case, it is likely that your knowledge of other words is also incomplete, possibly because you spent much of your life memorising lists of vocabulary or translating from your first language instead of following our Vocabulary Improvement Plan.
- If you mistake was with grammar, then did you make the mistake because you didn't know how to write the sentence without mistakes or because you didn't manage your time properly?
The only way to know for sure if you have improved your writing is to get feedback. The important thing is that you can avoid making the same kind of mistake in your next essay.
