How can I improve my vocabulary on "unfamiliar" topics?

In order to be confident you can score a Band 7 for vocabulary in Writing and Speaking, you need to be prepared to speak (or write) about less-common topics.

One way to work on this is to choose topics that are unfamiliar to you and then apply Chris' Vocabulary Improvement Plan strategy as you read and listen to articles and/or podcasts.

One way to discover "unfamiliar" topics is to use the Discover>Topics area of TedTalks.

Here you will find an alphabeticalized list of topics. You can choose a topic you are unfamiliar with and use the talks to improve your vocabulary.

Here is a short video showing you how to do this.
