How can I speak about unfamiliar topics?
This is a common concern for many IELTS students.
The difficulty can stem from a lack of ideas, a lack of vocabulary, or a combination of both.
It is impossible to guess what topic you'll be given in your real Speaking test, but here's how to work on this so that you can confidently deal with any topic you're given in the Speaking test.
- Identify topics that you have never thought about before or talked about before.
- Follow Chris' Vocabulary Improvement Plan strategy to read articles about or listen to conversations about the topic. By doing this, you'll not only improve your vocabulary, you'll also be exposed to lots of ideas related to the topic.
- Practice speaking about whatever topic you've been reading or listening about. You can do this with a partner or by yourself.
