What does the “Reading - Are you ready?” self-assessment mean in the roadmap?

In your roadmap, “Reading - Are you ready?” helps you: 

  • understand your current IELTS level
  • identify your strengths and weaknesses
  • see which areas you need to improve

Follow the steps below to complete the self-assessment:

Step 1: Start by watching the “Are you ready?” video.

- how to approach the self-assessment
- how to complete a practice test correctly
- how to interpret your results

Step 2: Complete a full Reading practice test under exam conditions
For your Reading self-assessment, please use practice tests available on official IELTS websites or from Cambridge IELTS books. You can find links to authentic resources here.

When taking the test:

- follow the official time limits
- do not pause the test
- do not use dictionaries, notes, or outside help

Completing official practice tests under exam conditions will give you a more accurate understanding of your current IELTS level. You should achieve your target score in 2-3 practice tests in a row to confirm your level.

Step 3: Review your mistakes carefully
After completing the test, review your answers and analyse your mistakes carefully. This will help you understand:

- why certain answers were incorrect
- which strategies need improvement
- which areas require more practice
