What are the differences between high, medium, and low band scores?

In the actual IELTS test, you'll be given a flat score, not high, medium or low; however, here at IELTS Advantage, we've begun to inform students of whether we consider their individual band scores high, medium, or low so that they can get a better idea of whether or not they are progressing. Here are explanations of such scores:

  • a high Band 6 score would be one that was quite close to Band 7
  • a medium Band 6 score would be one that is quite firmly Band 6
  • a low Band 6 score would be one that was actually quite close to being Band 5

Knowing such information can help you judge your progress over time, as it can take a lot of effort and time to move from a low band score to the next higher band score.
