Cambridge Book 16 - Test 3 - Writing Question

It is very unlikely you will encounter the following question in the exam, so don't be overly concerned:

Some people spend most of their lives living close to where they were born.

What might be the reasons for this?

What are the advantages and disadvantages?

For the first question, give 2 reasons as normal, but you can't write 4 ideas for the second question - 2 advantages and 2 disadvantages. That wouldn't be possible in the time you have in the exam. Instead, tackle the second question like this:

  • There are several advantages related to X such as (give 1 advantage)
  • Explain the advantage.
  • There are also some disadvantages concerning X such as (give 1 disadvantage)
  • Explain the disadvantage.
  • Give an example for the disadvantage.

In this way, you have fully answered the question and can do so within the time available.

Here is a brief example:

There are several advantages related to living around people who have always known you, such as always having neighbours you can rely on for help. [explain] There are also some disadvantages concerning missing out on different experiences, such as never learning to rely solely on yourself. [explain] [example]
