Do I need an article before a percentage?

You have to identify the noun before you can decide whether or not you need to use an article.

  • 25% of people watch more than 4 hours of TV every day. (The noun is 25%. It doesn't take an article.)
  • Netflix has a 25% larger audience than Amazon Prime. (The noun is audience. It needs an article.)

Note: You use the when describing the percentage in some way.

  • Of the 60% of members who responded to the survey, half said that they watch TV to relax at the end of the day.
