Cohesive devices are the words we use to link our ideas together. They should be used accurately and appropriately for formal writing and informal speaking.

Appropriate formal cohesive devices for essay writing are covered in the Writing Course. You don’t need to use cohesive devices at the beginning of every sentence. Here are the relevant modules in the Writing Course for cohesive devices:
