Why do examiners interrupt candidates in the Speaking test?

It is the examiner's job to manage the time in an IELTS test.

Part 1 must take 4-5 minutes. The examiner will ask you about 3 different topics, and 4 questions about each topic. If the examiner thinks they will not have time to finish asking you all the questions, they will interrupt you. This does not affect your score.

After Part 2, the examiner will ask you a follow-up question. If you give a very long answer, the examiner will interrupt you and move on to Part 3. This is because the entire test must not last more than 14 minutes.

Part 3 must take 4-5 minutes. The examiner will ask you 4-8 different questions. If the examiner thinks they will not have time to ask you all the questions, they will interrupt you. This does not affect your score.
