How can I write better explanations in Task 2 essays?
Your topic sentence will have your main idea. Your explanation needs to say how or why your main idea is true.
Here is an example:
Topic sentence: New housing should not be built in the countryside because it is important to preserve these areas for growing crops.
Ask yourself: why is it true that it's important to preserve the countryside for growing crops? The answer to this question is your explanation.
Explanation: This is because as the world's population continues to grow, the demand for food will also increase. If the countryside is converted into residential housing areas, there might not be enough land available to grow enough food to feed all the people in the future.
Here are some common mistakes to avoid:
1. Simply repeating the main idea
This is because the countryside needs to be saved for farmers to grow food for people to eat.
2. Only giving the result
This is because if farmers grow more crops, it will be possible feed more people, and fewer people will have to go hungry.
3. Changing the focus
Some countries cannot grow enough food and have to import food from other countries. This is expensive, and some people cannot afford to buy expensive food.
